Sure that Geneviève is more passionate and exciting, Madeleine is quite pretty herself, and low maintenance. I can see Geneviève could be a pain on certain days. Madeleine is my preference for a wife. Of course, could be entirely different when you with the actual person.

Geneviève is the better singer, and in the world of Les parapluies de Cherbourg that's what really counts, isn't it???????
shareI think the stage direction was for Madeleine to sing her lines a bit too slowly and without flair in order to show that the character was too shy and very low-key, at least in the first two acts.
