Just Saw It and it blew my mind!

What a powerful movie. Thought provoking, powerful, masterfully acted. The fact that it was made in 1964 was amazing to me. Glad I recorded it so I can watch it again, because its rarely shown. Thank you, TCM.

I remember seeing this movie when I was a teenager and it really affected me. But I don't remember how it ended! Can you please refresh my memory?

reply

I would tell you but I'll have to do it privately as I dont want to spoil it for others. E mail me at [email protected].

Yeah, I saw this for the first time and it's a very powerful and ultimately sad film. It's real and in some ways, sadly, still relevant today.

"Now what kind of man are YOU dude?"

I, too, just finished seeing it for the first time, and I'm still in tears! And in all the great reviews above, I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the father, Robert Earl Jones, the father of James Earl Jones. His voice, mouth and eyes definitely went to his son!

What a great groundbreaking movie. This far surpasses "Guess who's Coming to Dinner". The ending was so sad, but overall this was a great movie..although a bit short.

reply

yes, it was excellent.

what?

was that directed toward me?

reply

Just finished watching on TCM. It was gut wrenching.

I just watched it as well! I had never heard of it prior to this year's MLK weekend marathon.

I was on the edge of my seat watching, but that ending....just wow. Totally plausible of course, but it just left me with such a sick feeling.

I know it's not a true story, but it made me wonder how often Ellen would see her mother, Frank, and her brother and her grandparents. Would her "father" keep her away and fill her head with lies? Would she see her family enough to eventually understand that her mother did not give her up willingly? Would her father eventually lose interest and return her to her mom and Frank? So many questions.

She really broke my heart at the end.

And since I'm making stuff up in my head, I hope the judge didn't have a peaceful night's sleep the rest of his life.

Im gonna cut this wire&leave the bldg. Then&only then are you going to stand up. Am I clear?- Mrs S

I know Cran. Not sure what the discussion was or how it came up, but a friend and movie buff was telling me about this movie a couple of months ago and I hunted everywhere on line but couldn't find a copy. When I saw it on TCM's schedule I set my dvr. Just watched it yesterday. Was hoping for a change-of-heart ending, but it just tore my heart out. A very powerful and tragic film. Glad I got the chance to see it.

My date last night was awful. And then he wouldn't even spend the night.
