There are parts of this movie that are very moving. I have heard of the book, the Power of Positive Thinking, but I did not know much about the author, Rev. Peale. I don't know how accurate the movie is but he comes across as an interesting man.

i was on a peale kick 20 years ago and read several of the books. from what i recall this movie is very accurate as to his biographical story. i sure enjoyed it.

i am reading carnegie now, which is a treat.

i highly recommend peale's original book 'power of positive thinking' and i REALLY highly recommend his book 'imaging' or something like that. it was great, and an eye opener.

but alas today he is probably passe to 99.9999999% of all humans on the planet. they are in a hurry and can't be bothered, and if it's not new and shiny it must be 'old' and therefore worthless. :/

I think you're right. Today a lot of what occurred in the past, even the recent past, seem to be lost to a lot of people. It's kind of scary. To some extent that may have always been the way it was but I think it's far worse an issue today.

A lot of people are consumed with social media. They write trivialities about their daily lives, other people read them, and they take and post a multitude of pictures. There's no time left to do anything that does not involve getting views, likes, and followers. So much of life now seems to be about how we can all focus more on ourselves. We have tighter circles of friends and often spend more time with them electronically than in person.

Society, I feel, will pay a heavy toll and it's not way far away in the future; it's already starting to happen. I wonder how relevant Peale's book, How to win friends and influence people, fits into today's society. I think people still want to do those things but how it's done is probably vastly different than when he originally wrote the book.
