Roger Livesey

Livesey gave another of his perfect performances in this film. He was a fascinating, charismatic actor who never gave a poor performance. He should have been a bigger star, but unfortunately he's almost unknown in the U.S.

Five years later, and no response before mine. (Sigh.)

I agree with you, liscarkat-2. I've just seen this 1964 OF HUMAN BONDAGE today, finding it much more powerful and nuanced than I expected. What's more I had forgotten that the great Roger Livesey was even credited until he turned up late in the film.

Many extremely talented actors fall below the radar of American viewers if those performers had little-to-no presence in Hollywood productions. Luckily for me, I discovered him in THE LIFE OF COLONEL BLIMP and I KNOW WHERE I'M GOING back in 1985, before I turned 30.

His talent has some relation to those being my two favorite Powell/Pressburger pictures by far!

Most great films deserve a more appreciative audience than they get.
