Unusually creepy, effectively atmospheric...

...the cinematography is a standout in this film. I was more fascinated by the look of the movie than by the plot. Glad it's in the the 8-movie dvd Hammer Horror Series set.

One of the best ever films for cinematography indeed-lighting especially-they must have had a lot of set-ups! The scene where the 'ghost woman' (Clytie Jessop) appears is especially effective.

The beautifully crisp black and white cinematography in this movie was a real feast for the eyes. I'm so happy that Universal offers a sharp widescreen presentation of this worthy thriller as part of their "The Hammer Horror Series" box set.

Nobody does W.C. Fields singing "Mama Told Me Not to Come" better than Paul Frees.

Very nicely done thriller with a cast daring you not to take it seriously. I was very pleasantly surprised by this minor Hammer gem.

I also think the cinematography stands out. The lighting is very effective, and the props and sets add to the atmosphere.

I am also glad Universal added it to the Hammer Horror Series set. This is one of the Universal titles I missed out on when it was on videotape. I wasn't familiar with the movie at the time, and I didn't want to take a chance on it.

As far as psychological thrillers go, "Nightmare" has a nifty plot with two interesting twists. POSSIBLE SPOILER: It also gets a tiny bit campy when Grace begins her fits of anger, which finally leave her wailing, "Why? Why? Why?"

I think the cinematography saves the film, really. John Wilcox's lighting is incredible. Otherwise I find it a bit banal, to be honest.

Brilliant Creepy Cinematography!

I loved this movie.

I loved it, too, the cinematography AND the movie. And it's certainly not "banal"! One of the worst adjectives you could pick to describe this gem. However the tone did remind me of other Sangster's screenplays, like the brilliant Taste of Fear.

The cinematography was great. And I was fully engrossed in the characters and story. I wasn't quite sure what was going on with the characters at any given moment, but I just sat back and enjoyed the ride. It was interesting to see how everything would unfold. The ending was wonderful. I really enjoy these kinds of psychological horror movies that give you a sense of paranoia. Overall, I am very satisfied with this movie.
