Third Person

Did you notice that Shannon referred to himself in the third person at least three times?
Isn't this an example of some form of mental problem? I forget what it's called.
Remember the Seinfeld episode with "Jimmy"? That was funny.
Anyway, I'm thinking about doing it now myself. Hahahahaha......;)

Not a mental problem, but definitely annoying.

Well, he had his issues but I think referring to himself as the Reverend T. Lawrence Shannon was him making more of a statement on his once highly respected position from which he had fallen.

That was his torment: falling down in life and unable to accept his humanity. He saw things in black and white. Once he had sex with the girl in his parish he saw himself as a sinner from which there was no turning back. That led to his breakdown and descent into alcoholism.

It took the wisdom of Miss Jelkes to explain to him otherwise and calm the fever of his torment.
