One of the great lines.

Charlotte sneaks into Shannon's room and after a bit of conversation asks him, "Have you been drinking?" to which he replies, "Honey-girl, if I'd been drinking, I'd, uh, still be drinking." That's going into my future repertoire.

Lots of great lines in this film including when Charlotte and Shannon are finished swimming and Miss Fellowes is screaming at them;

Shannon: "What did you think we were doing out there, Miss Fellowes? Spawning?"

Here's a web page of some great quotes from the film.

it's just in my humble opinion - imho -

Yeah, way too many great lines to single out one, but this comes to mind, as funny and pathetic:

When Hannah says to Shannon, "It's just panic" (as he's coming apart), he responds with, "Don't say 'just panic' like you'd say 'just leprosy'!", or something close to that.

To her, it's no big deal, but to him, it's overwhelming. He's actually insulted, which makes it funny.

She deserves her revenge, and we deserve to die.

Shannon to Ms. Jelkes while trussed up in the hammock:

"Well what is it that you respect in me Miss Thin Standing-Up Female Buddha?"

"I hope she didn't take my attempt to destroy her too seriously."

reply

After the story about the Aussie underwear salesman.
"Nothing human disgusts me Mr. Shannon."

Statutory rape ? That's when a man is seduced by a girl under twenty.

(Shannon)

"I am not a complete idiot, some parts are missing."

reply

"There are worse things than chastity, Mr. Shannon."

"Yes, lunacy and death."

"I am not a complete idiot, some parts are missing."

I like the movie's last line, when Maxine says something like "I'll get you back up". An obvious sexual innuendo.

When Maxine tells Miss Fellowes, "Well my specialty is geography. Do you know that it's the dikes of Texas that keep the plains from flooding?"

My favourite Ava Gardner line from this film is..

"I'll get you back up honey. I'll always get you back up"

One of the best lines {and perhaps all-time best of Richard Burton's}-

"Because you, not me — not me — are taking pleasure in my tied-up condition. All women, whether they face it or not, want to see a man in a tied-up situation."
