Favorite song in the movie

Most of the songs in the movie were really good, from the lyrics perspective as well as from the tune perspective. If I had to pick a song which I thoroughly enjoyed while watching it, it would be "A little bit of luck" by Eliza's dad. Such a peppy tune and good dance moves as well. Which would be your favorite?

I would have to vote for "Street Where You Live" because, even though they didn't let Freddie sing it, the guy who sings it is wonderful and it is a great song.

Wish I could vote for Eliza's tunes but I just can't reconcile the disembodied voice.

When I was a kid I loved "I Could Have Danced All Night" because it was like the first time she was really happy there. Now I just love "Without You" because she jabs him so good, just wonderfully scripted! "I've grown accustomed" and "With a woman in your life" are sung with such perfect emotion from Rex. And "On the street where you live" is very very beautiful. "Show me" is fun to watch. Every bit of this film is embedded in my being somewhere. I really love all of it!

Thanks for mentioning "A Little Bit of Luck," as the rest of this post concerns it. As for favorite song, I like a lot of them equally but the one I have to watch every time it is on is "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face," because Rex Harrison is just so damn brilliant in that!

One of the most memorable lines from My Fair Lady didn't come from the movie, but from my friend Frank, with the notation, only an engineer!

About thirty years ago we were watching this when he asked me around when it took place. I said, "Around 1913," and he said, "Oh, no, that's rolled culvert! It wasn't invented until MUCH later!" The "famous" rolled culvert appears from about 1:47 to 2:27, or 40 seconds, and then again briefly at the end of the song. Since then I can't see rolled culvert without thinking of Frank, and this song! Also note that the trench being dug is awfully small for that culvert if that is where it is meant to go. Maybe they briefly entered the Twilight Zone!

To tease Frank, I posted the video on Facebook. His wife, Ruth, also an engineer, looked it up and learned rolled culvert is at least 100 years old, but the older style was bolted while that in the movie was riveted. So it was a goof, just not as big as he first thought!

I've always thought that the loveliest melody in the score is the brief fragment of song sung by Freddy which is interrupted by Eliza's rather frantic "Show Me":

Speak, and the world is full of singing,
And I am winging higher thant the birds.
Touch, and my heart begins to crumble,
The heavens tumble,
Darling and I'm ---

In my case, self-absorption is completely justified.
