How did Godzilla get underground?

King Kong Vs Godzilla opens with Godzilla exactly where he was at the end of the previous film, in a huge Ice Burg. As it should be.

But at the end of that film he and Kong both fell in the Ocean, and not he's somehow buried alive at the start of this?

I don't get it?

Still seems absurd.

At the end of KING KONG VS. GODZILLA, there is an earthquake, and large chunks of earth collapse. I always thought that Godzilla got buried by these chunks of earth, which would explain why he never reemerges in the KING KONG film, and also why he's underground in MOTHRA.

He had been on a night of wild binge drinking and in a drunken stupor ended up being buried alive. Perhaps that explains why he's so grouchy and clumsy in this film, he's just suffering from a colossal hangover.

I think he was washed ashore and somehow got buried. Maybe borrowed and went back to sleep.

In the movie, there was a big typhoon the day before Godzilla emerged from the beach. I assume the filmmakers intended to convey that he had been sleeping in the ocean nearby, and got washed ashore in the storm.
