question for Godzilla fans

Hi, I just watched this for the first time and was expecting to really like it. I've always been a big fan of Asian cinema and I usually like things that are kind of hokey and campy, so I thought this would be right up my alley. Unfortunately, I didn't like this film at all. Not even a little. I hated the singing fairy twins or whatever they were and I thought the end battle was extremely anticlimactic. My question for people who have watched a lot of these movies - How does this one rank in comparison with the others? From what I read on the internet, it seems like this one is pretty highly thought of. If that's the case, I should probably stop now. But I want to like these Godzilla films. I've been wanting to get into them for awhile, and I guess I wasn't expecting to hate the first one I ever saw. Does everyone here love this film? Which other Godzilla films would you recommend? Thanks.

For those of us who grew up watching these movies on Saturday afternoons, it's hard to really be objective about them now. When I just watched this one recently, it seemed a little slow, and, of course, very cheesy, but I loved it for what it is.

If you feel like continuing through the Godzilla I would recommend that you watch the first one next. That's certainly the most serious of the original Godzilla movies.

Then, if you want to continue on in a more serious vein, try the recent "Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack". That movie does an excellent job of splitting the difference between the classic, campy Godzilla movies, and a more serious tone. I also thought "Godzilla 2000" did a good job in updating the Big G and making him a little fiercer.

Alternatively, if you want to go whole-hog into hokeness and campiness, try the movies from the late 60s/early 70s, when the series was basically being made for kids. "Destroy All Monsters" is probably the ultimate example of this, with every monster available thrown into the pot and stirred.

Or, it may just be that you don't like Godzilla movies, which is perfectly understandable, especially if you didn't grow up watching them on Saturday afternoons.

We don't have to suffer, we're the best batch yet.
