Screw MST3K

Screw this and the rest of ignorant Americans that come on here and mention it.

Laugh all you want, but you only do this because you care for no culture but your own and anything you don't recognize you immediately label as weird.

Go to your Burger King, fatsos, and have your shake and bake.

You know... the vast majority of the movies that MST pokes fun at are American movies. Maybe you could try to be a little less sensititve.

reply

That's funny. Normally most call me insensitive.

reply

Oh, I'm sure you're a completely insensitive prick when it comes to anyone else's feelings. But when it's YOU, you're Mr. Hyper Sensitive "HOW DARE YOU MOCK MY NATIVE CULTURE WAH WAH WAH BIG AMERIKAN BULLIES WAAAAAAAHHHHH MOMMY!" Just like that.

reply

I'm Canadian and laughed during THE FINAL SACRIFICE. These characters and events are not true Canadian stereotypes of course. Although the old man does sound like Red Green when he talks.

Try not to take MST3K too seriously, as they are not so much making fun of the culture as the movie and how silly it is.

Actually, in this case, they don't often make fun of the movie. Watch it again. They're laughing with this one, not at it.

It's really a very pretty little film (and I'm an American). I liked it, and I liked the way MST3K handled it. Their humor was unusually gentle. I think they liked it, too.

reply

"That's funny."

Why is it funny? Oh, that's right... because he's not making fun of a movie from your country. I see.

"Normally most people call me insensitive."

Wow. What a surprise. If it's what most people normally say about you, you might want to start listening to them.

I don't think it's anti-Russian to say that this was, quite simply, a bad movie. When you think about it, most "fairy tale" films aren't done very well and don't translate well from the story to the screen. For instance, a man throwing clubs up into the air with such strength that they don't come down until next winter is a pretty entertaining thought. But when they film a cheesy-looking, wussy actor engaging in terrible dialogue while he does it, it's hard to make that seem enjoyable on film.

The Mystery Science Theater treatment was entirely justified. It was just a goofy movie. Some Russian-made films are quite good... This just wasn't one of them.

Seriously? Pull the stick from your ass & relax. Breathe. There. Now take a minute to absorb this:

1. I'm American.
2. I've been in love with Russian culture since I was about 4 years old.
3. I love this movie AND I love the MST3K version.

If you educate yourself a little about this topic, you'll find that the MST3K guys now have a project called RiffTrax. They "riff" newer, bigger budget movies the same as they did with the low budget ones on MST3K.

Now. Here's the real kicker. They "riffed" the "Lord of the Rings" movies, one of my favorite films of all time.

Did I get my panties in a bunch? Absolutely not. Did I go on some tirade about how they were pissing on J.R.R. Tolkien or being ignorant burger-eating fatsos? No.

Sounds like the one preaching about "ignorant", intolerant Americans is, in fact.......the ignorant, intolerant one.

Learn to take things in stride; it's what humor is all about. Grandfather Frost is watching you.

I'm so happy mst3k ripped this movie apart

reply

Any MST3K/Rifftrax fan knows you can easily riff even GOOD movies. Rifftrax did Casablanca, for that matter!

(Favorite riff from that, as a Beatles fan: after the opening bars of La Marsellaise during the opening credits, the guys started singing, "Love, love, love...")

Seriously, though...the guys at Best Brains were the first to admit that the Russo-Finnish fairy tale movies they did were among the better MSTed movies. They were cheesy, in their way--enough to provide plenty of riffs. But the production values were quite good for the time period they were made, they provided a real feel of "long ago and far away," and the musical scores were excellent (especially true of Jack Frost).

"Screw this and the rest of ignorant Americans that come on here and mention it."

Was "MST3K" ignorant against Mexicans for making fun of "Santa Claus" and "The Robot vs. the Aztec Mummy"? Were they ignorant against British people for making fun of "Devil Doll"? Were they ignorant against Italians for making fun of "Secret Agent Super Dragon" and three Hercules films which came out of Italy? Were they ignorant against Japanese people for making fun of several Godzilla and Gamera films? Oh, better yet, were they ignorant against AMERICANS for making fun of primarily AMERICAN movies? The only ignorance I see here is coming from you, Chapaev.

"Laugh all you want, but you only do this because you care for no culture but your own and anything you don't recognize you immediately label as weird."

No, we laugh at this movie because it's A BAD MOVIE, and we laugh at "MST3K" because they provide a funny commentary for it. Stop being such a crybaby pussy and invest in a sense of humor for God's sake. Let me ask you something, Chapaev: how many Americans have you heard laughing and poking fun at the Russian film "Night Watch"? Chances are you haven't, because it's - get this - a good film. And believe it or not, I'm an American, and I love Russian culture. In face, I love ALL cultures.

"Go to your Burger King, fatsos, and have your shake and bake."

Oh, I see... so it's perfectly okay for you to negatively stereotype Americans, but it's horribly wrong for anyone to negatively stereotype Russians, which, in fact, nobody here is doing in the first place. So you're not only a crybaby, but a hypocrite. Bad combination, Chapaev.

I have no problem with MST3K riffing movies I like, or good movies. What I can't stand is those fanboys (and, I guess, fangirls) that assume something stinks and is awful just because it was on MST3K, and vote all MSTed movies 1 out of 10 on IMDb. Some of them were actually horrible, but some of them are highly underrated. Jack Frost is one of the latter.

This is not my signature. This is IMDb's automatic translation of my signature.

reply

You do have a point. As cheesy as the films showcased on "MST3K" were, not all of them were absolutely terrible. The very last one, "Danger: Diabolik," holds the highest rating on IMDB, I think. "Jack Frost" wasn't terrible either; it was beautifully shot and gave us a taste of Russian folklore, though it wasn't without flaws. The Sinbad movie they showcased was similar. In spite of this, the "MST3K" commentary for "Jack Frost" was so funny that my stomach hurt from laughing the first time I saw it.

I watched the MST3K version of this film, and while I enjoyed the commentary, I actually enjoyed the movie itself. It's one of the very few. I'd actually consider purchasing a copy of the original. Sure, it's cheesy, but it's also charming.

reply

Yes, the movie certainly does have its own charm. As far as movies showcased on "MST3K," it certainly wasn't terrible.

I enjoyed this film, I'm American, I found it hilarious, because the movie is funny, it's not bad at all it's clearly meant to be funny. I also enjoyed MST3K episode that showed me this movie, as it was the only way I could see it. I may never have seen this movie if it wasn't for mystery science theater 3000. I don't think they made fun of the movie much or russia even, they make fun of just about everything in the 90's cultures of the world. So relax if anything it spreads this wonderful movie throughout the world to a bigger audience.
