Something I didn't get...

Disclaimer: I was first acquainted with this film through the Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode which featured it. I think the episode is hilarious. However, I don't think this is a bad film. It looks like a very entertaining family movie that is just a little bizarre to American viewers. We are not used to our live-action movies being so exaggerated, even those made for children.

So please know that I am asking this question honestly and without sarcasm.

I didn't quite get what *exactly* it was that awoke Nastynka (sp?) from her frozen sleep. Was it Ivanushka's fervent wishing for her to forgive him? Was it the "awakened by her one true love" idea? (EDIT: Did they cut out a shot in which he kissed her?) Jack Frost never put forth any exceptions to the eternal sleep that would happen if someone touched the scepter. This puzzles me.

That's always puzzled me too. Just creative license,is all I can think of.

"I love you,but I hate you, which brings to mind how much I love you."

It's love that awakens her. It's rather simple really. I don't think it was a cut. He didn't kiss her because he didn't have to, his true love was enough. Also, a kiss would not have been appropriate before marriage.
Maybe this movie is hard to understand for the westerners, but here in Eastern Europe there are lots of stories like this. Children used to grow up with them. I found the film nice and in the spirit of these stories.

That was my interpretation too, considering that even in Western Europe there are a lot of fairy tales in which a girl is under a spell that can only be broken by the love of a boy.

Father Frost says nothing that touches his scepter(LOL) will come back to life. Yet when the gay guy with the bad blond wig shows up she wakes right up. Go figure.
