Remake?

Although it couldn't possibly do this unfortunately underrated little film justice, does anyone like the idea of a remake, or does anyone know of a planned remake?

reply

To be honest i would hate it if there was ever to be a remake. film producers these days need to realise that sometimes classics are the best and shouldnt be tampered with. or maybe they just have the ignorance to know and not care...lol!
i think if the remake for the moon-spinners was to have Hayley as Nikki again, the lo-cal was in Crete, they had a good supporting cast and they put a good director in charge.it would be good!
noone can replace Pola Negri,though-she was a legend.
what do you think?

Hi,one can never be too rich or have too many friends.Possibly the blonde on Zack and Cody on the disney channel and Shirley MacClaine as the exotic rich lady might be good.

You sir, if you are not already working for a movie production house (perhaps specializing in remakes of already good movies for quick cash), should avoid seeking a career in the movie production business. Seeing as it is already full of talentless, money worshipping, lazy, soul destroying, shameless hacks. Your particular ideas, while still offending the public at large who like old movies the way they are and don't want their memory tarnished by shoddy remakes, would also be looked down upon by the other no good talentless hacks out there.

If on the other hand you do already work for one of those production houses and are perhaps vetting your ideas with the public before recommending your production house buy up the rights to this film, then I dutifully suggest that you seek redemption by removing yourself from polite society by going on a swimming vacation with a hungry nest of Everglade alligators. Take some of your producer friends with you. Please, do everyone a favor.

For everyone else reading this poor, pathetic thread, do any of you notice that whenever you visit the page for a really good movie from a few decades ago, there is sure to be someone there asking everyone what they would think of a remake of this and who would you like to see cast in it and here is what I would change about it? Is IMDB being used by producers to vet ideas about easy to make remakes? Are we in fact helping them to put out substandard product based on well made movies, whose only crime was to have been made before the 14 to 25 year old crowd had a chance to see them? Will using the same script and adding todays special effects make up for the substandard acting that inevitably infests these remakes? I say that if these parasites who have taken over Hollywood cannot come up with ideas of their own then they should step down and hand the reigns of power in Hollywood to a new generation of film makers who are willing to take a chance instead of retreading older movies into mediocrity.

Notice how I leave out the lol's as I find nothing amusing with your completely unoriginal post. The sneaky underhandedness of your suggestion appalls me.

reply

That's your opinion...and mine is that I would like to see a remake. And I did post at the beginning that I didn't think that anyone could capture the uniqueness of this film in the first place. A remake was just an idea...

reply

Ranked right along with the clueless ignorant remake posts out there are the ones that say "I'd rather not see a remake.... but if there was one to be made, here's my entire list down to the grips."

I grow weary of seeing every one of these unoriginal posts as well. Don't you people have more productive things to do?

I like this movie. It's sweet, it has a definate nostalgia factor and normally I abhor remakes but...this movie is not the book. I, for one, would love to see a true film adaptation of the book. And wouldn't it be great to see Airs Above the Ground? Or how about Wild-fire at Midnight?
Thoughts?

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Because it IS contradictory.

I don't know why some people like the oldies and others don't.

I was a child in the 1970s, and I liked Brady Bunch, telemovies, saturday morning cartoons, Bugs Bunny cartoons.

And I could also turn around and watch Little Rascals, Laurel & Hardy, Johnny Weissmuller Tarzan movies, WC Fields, Errol Flynn's Robin Hood, Lionel Barrymore in On Borrowed Time, all with no problem.

When Psycho was 'remade' deliberatly scene for scene, I commented to my young nephew, why not watch the original?

Because this one is in color, was his reply. I bet he never has seen the original.

A friend of mine, whom I would lay down my life for, is about the same way.

If it is over five years old, they aren't watching it.

I'd love to see a remake. I never liked the first version that much, and I love Mary Stewart's novels.

I adore this movie and if it was ever remade, I wouldn't see it, just like I boycotted the Cheaper by the Dozen remakes.

It's like candy, but with blood, which is SO much better!

reply

well i just read the book after i saw the movie and i would like to get the books romance and action in a remake because so much was left out of the movie that was in the book

reply

That's exactly what I think- I've never read the book, but I think I would like it since you said it has more romance and action. I've always thought that this movie (which I do really like, by the way- I'm not one of those people who boycotts old movies because they're old) has a story that could be made contemporary and be amazing! It could play up the action, romance, and adventure! I think it would be great and would probably sit well with today's audiences.

The BBC should do a faithful adaptation of the novel--and for that matter, Stewart's unjustly neglected (by film and television producers) Gothic romance novels.

The film is a pleasant diversion, but barely even qualifies as an adaptation of the novel.

I enjoyed this film but I wouldn't mind a remake and I could see it done very well.

I wish Hollywood would think twice about remaking hits and instead, remake forgotten critical flops or financial flops (like "The Moon-spinners" was).

It's such a cinematic story too! It's got everything.

The story, as it appears in the movie, actually doesn't make much sense. Instead of an umpteenth remake of Pride and Prejudice, I would love to see Mary Stewart's books come (faithfully) to the screen. Of course, I'm just as happy for them to remain as books.

It would be nice if the BBC would do a series of her books. Airs Above the Ground, Nine Coaches Waiting, Madam Will You Talk?, My Brother Michael, Moon-Spinners again--done closer to the book, please.

What am I leaving out? Oh, The Ivy Tree and the Gabriel Hounds. The Ivy Tree especially has lots of turns and twists that would be fun to watch.

I know there are more of her books but they could do a travel series: Books in Greece, Britain, France and other countries, the Middle East, etc.

They should do M.M. Kaye's books too.

I just wonder how much modern scriptwriters would change some of the characters. I think most of the women would hold up, but some of the guys were a bit autocratic at times and I think a modern writer would tamper with that personality. Then there are the political angles in some of the books that I'm not sure some of the audience would get into because it's all so different now--especially in the Middle East.

Oh, well. There are always the books.
