It always seemed so random to me about how she just suddenly and inexplicably got wasted in the space of a couple hours. It seems like there should be more of a backstory there or something, but it's just one minute she's fine and lovely and sober and the next she's bitter and drunk. Did this seem out of place to anyone else?

Obviously the windmill is the pinnacle of this movie, so whatever happened afterwards is rather lost, especially comedy scenes like that.
She was supposed to provide information in her inebriated state, obviously, and was the lonely upper-class wife who is so bored, she drinks too much.
Watching it this time, she all but stole the show, with poor LeMesurier on the other end.
