Fantastic films but his endings are always lousy!!

I only watch the ones w/ japanese actress Hideko in them and this director happened to direct most films she acted in...so Im always stuck w/ lousy endings that just cut off =( And most of the time they're tragically depressing *sigh*

let me get this straight...in your "world" of fairies and rainbows, tragic endings are "lousy." lol thanks for the input.

back in reality, the ending of Yearning is one of the all-time best.

"Yearning" is a fine film. Great ending.

In his later films, Master Naruse seems to enjoy the idea of having young, handsome men pursuing Takamine at all cost, Nakadai and Yakama to name a few. Takamine rejected their advances in every film leaving them heartbroken.
