what's your understanding about the ending? (spoiler)

They are all his biological kids, or, he will be their real father and so the biological question doesn't matter anyway?

Also, when she talks about him killing her, is that sort of a reference to the plot of the earlier film, Divorce Italian Style?

Where's your crew?
On the 3rd planet.
There IS no 3rd planet!
Don't you think I know that?

reply

I think they are all his biologically.

reply

Then why would she say only one is his. I would think she would know if all were his. Does not seem to make any sense to say only one.

reply

Hmmm hard to say, actually my main 2 questions were:

1. Which one of the 3 is his child?

2. Would you trust Loren's love or after years of meanness from both sides you'd just feel you couldn't trust her?

reply

I thought none of them were his biological kids. At one point, she even states
that they're not his sons, but only later tells him otherwise, so maybe she
came up with the idea only later as a ploy. I don't even recall seeing any writing
on the corner of the lira note that she kept. It was the only way to keep him guessing, and eventually, when he realized he still loved her, I think he began
to realize that maybe none of them were his biological sons, but that it really
didn't matter anymore, so he just went along with her ruse.

I'm not crying, you fool, I'm laughing!

Hewwo.

reply

Agree with you tmaj48.
She just found another more effective way to make him marry her.

reply

The truth is, it is irrelevant.
Filomena is a survivor. The truth, the whole truth, the part truth, the falsehood, it doesn't matter as long as the higher good is served.
The only truth is that Filomena embodies the higher good--for herself, her children, and even for Domenico.

reply

She tricked him into marrying her the first time (by being supposed near death)

This is next trick in the playbook. Pretend one is his son and you hook the fish

She was a prostitute in the non-condom days - she probably has very little idea who any of their fathers are unless she took a break from turning tricks at certain times.

reply

Um, seahawk 3133: Condoms have been in use since at least the 16th century, mainly to prevent syphilis, which first cropped up then. And the U.S. military (among others) distributed them widely during World War 2, largely to prevent STDs.
