Influence on Suspiria?

I just watched The Masque of the Red Death last night, and throughout the movie I couldn't help but think of Dario Argento's Suspiria (1977). Though the films are obviously very different when it comes to subject matter, the whole look of Masque reminded me of Suspiria, as did the flights of surreal fancy. Like Suspiria, Masque makes use of a great cinematography and brilliant colors, most notably red. And although the story of Masque is much more coherent, there are a lot of surreal elements like in the Argento film, such as the scene where Juliana has the dream initiation sequence. I don't know whether Argento ever talked about what inspired Suspiria or if he's even seen Masque of the Red Death, but this movie seemed like it could have possibly inspired a lot of elements in Suspiria.

Not only Suspiria but Rosemary's Baby recalls it too (and the film itself seemed inspired by The Seventh Seal)
