That was PL Travers wanting to keep their relationship completely platonic. He pulled a face like, "DAYUM!"

a) It's a story FOR CHILDREN.

b) The story was written (and the movie made) back when the word "gentleman" was not employed for ironic effect or with any (post-modern) subtext.

He wasn't gay, he was a (supposedly) cockney. Which is pretty much the same thing to folks from oop North!

It wasnt me, it was the other three. Hang them!

It seems that every Male character that was created past and present who is not married to a woman or at least going out with her-the question "Is he Gay?" is asked of that character.

I think the OP is making a statement in the form of a question in an attempt to hide the fact he actually believes that Bert is Gay. If I'm correct(I'm not saying I am)then I suggest that the OP take a look at my sig below.

The reason why I think he is making a statement is that anyone who has a brain(and anyone that knows about movies between 1900-1970) would know that Gay characters were not common place in movies and TV. That would come later.

Mary Poppins was and still is one of the best movies ever made-so I resent an even a hint that any of the characters to be Gay.

I don't feed trolls--I eat them(for breakfast!!)

Why? Just because he danced with other men?

The whole cast was gay. The kids, the mother, the house staff, even Mister Banks......

Give me a goddamn break. Because a man is a gentleman and is NOT from the upper class, he's suddenly a raving homosexual?

What the hell is the matter with you?

Are you secretly gay?

Do you have fantasies about Burt late at night before you go to bed?

Is that why you're posting here?

Is that why you're bringing up the topic in a children's film?

Get lost!

Yes, Bert was happy. I'm surprised you didn't notice his cheery disposition as well.

What Mary was saying is that Bert is a Gentleman.

And rosy cheeks. NO warts!.

so... let me get this straight. A guy is gay because he doesn't force himself onto women and because he's protective and, God forbid, a gentleman!
