Disaster to the books

Even though I love the movie, I feel it is a complete disaster to the books. Very disaster to Travers beloved work. Poor Travers was right on everything she said. Disney tricked her. Just wanting money. It's P.L. Travers' Mary Poppins screened by Walt Disney. Not Walt Disney's Mary Poppins. All he wanted was the title. That's why I think the musical is better. And Travers would like the musical better. If you ask me, the movie is a second death to Travers' father. All giddy, happy and frolicking. That is not Mary Poppins. Mary Poppins is dark, strict and stern. Poor woman was unable to be happy the rest of her life because of it. And Disney for years has tried to make her look bad and make her out to be the bad guy when it was Disney, thinking charm WOULD force her to bow to them.

reply

She was certainly happy with the money she made from it.

reply

Yeah, but her poor dead Father's honor was destroyed. She didn't smile again she said.

reply

If you get a chance you should try to get ahold of a book called Mary Poppins She Wrote by Valerie Lawson delves into her whole life and what kind of person she really was it's a very interesting read.

reply

Well in that movie with Tom Hanks and Emma Thomson, her father was a drunk who deserved to get fired from the bank. Was that true?

reply

the film doesn't resemble the books much, but then few films of the book do. And it would have boosted sales of the books considerably, i expevt she was happy about that. after all, she didn't have to sell the film rights to Disney.

reply

I feel should shouldn't have sold the rights. She should said "you either make it the way I want it or you're not getting the rights." I feel so bad for her.

reply

And her books were selling fine before Disney.

reply

the film would have boosted sales considerably though, films usually do. i expect she was pleased about the money

reply

Actually they weren't. Sales had significantly declined. That's why it was easier for Disney to wear her down and she allowed Disney to make the movie.

Even though I love the movie, I feel it is a complete disaster to the books.

While I know you were not happy about how the filmmakers handled the original book, it's nice to know that you still loved the movie on its own. Can you talk about what you did like about the movie apart from it not strictly adhering to the book?

reply

Yeah, glad to see he or she did like it..I think I've gone down this path before//.

reply

I've heard Travers actually was a really hard person to work with and could be quite nasty.

reply

Screw the books. The movie is better. (Yes, I've read them).

reply

A-HA, so you admit you love the movie..!

reply

I absolutely agree with you. Books play a very big and important role in my life. I love to read and I do it whenever possible. So far, I have started reading scientific literature to write apa paper together with https://edubirdie.com/apa-paper-writer - a very important document for me that I have to submit in a week.
