This film kind of wasted Glynis Johns
Glynis Johns did a wonderful job in her role. She should have been given way more songs to sing, and way more screen-time.
If I was making the film, then I would have cut out:
- the entire 17 minute half-baked animation sequence that starts when Mary jumps into the picture (but I'd probably take enough of that time back as is necessary to work Supercalifragilisticexpialidociou into a new scene)
- all of the scenes that include Bert's chimney sweep buddies (but I'd keep the scenes of Mary leading them into the skies...up until Bert's creepy buddies pop-out and ruin it)
- better yet, I'd probably cut Bert out of the film entirely. He's kind of a useless character and Andrews'/Mary's singing vastly outclasses his (I'm not sure if that is largely because of DVD trying to sing with a fake accent, or if Andrews would vastly outclass the normal DVD's voice too).
- every single scene featuring the sea captain with a fake boat on his roof. His character is not only completely pointless, but also annoying too.
...and then I'd give all of that screen-time to Glynis Johns.
That would improve the film a lot.
