Bert and Mr. Banks

Ironically, it was not Mary Poppins who got through to Mr. Banks - it was Bert. When he finished up the chimney cleaning, he offered his subtle advice in song. At that point, George Banks realized how he let money, duty, and order sidetrack him from his responsibilities as father.

I hadn't thought about that. They make a pretty good team. :)

He also got through to the kids when he had the talk with them on the steps just before singing chim chim cheree. He told them that they have all these people that look after them but no one looks after their father and how he could use their help. Bert really was a vital character in this film.

It's funny how as a kid you watch it for the songs the magic, then when you watch it as an adult it clicks! The scene with Bert and Mr Banks is what it's all about. That ultimately he carried on working, making money, but the kids would grow up and leave and he has lost being that part of their lives. Actually broke my heart when I realised this!
