Freaking over red

Too much of it of course. The last straw for me was the red dotted jockey shirt... yet in that scene, Marnie is wearing a brown shirt that almost looks red, in the next scene she's drinking obvious red wine, and her mother's apartment brickwork, especially in the rain, is a striking red. She must have gone nuts on Christmas and Valentine's Day...

...and she also wore a redish dress, when she emtied the safe at Rutlands, had a red lipstick almost through the whole movie and sometimes a red nailpolish.

It's not simply the color that freaks her out. The whole idea is that it triggers her traumatic memory of blood spatter. The red ink she spills on her blouse is a clear instance. Granted, there are moments when it's not as specific as that, but the jockey's red spots certainly falls within those bounds.
