Really singing?

Was Don Knotts really singing "I wish I were a Fish"? Or was that lipsank?

I'm pretty sure it was he. I have a neurological condition, synesthesia. One of the ways it shows up is that I see music. I mean that quite literally. If I close my eyes when I'm listening to music, I see swirls of color & pattern, very like Fantasia. It's pretty certain that some of the animators for Fantasia were synesthetes, in fact.

Anyway, I've always been able to tell if someone's lip-syncing by whether their voice looks the same. Sometimes the differences -- Natalie Wood vs. real singer Marni Nixon in West Side Story, for example -- are genuinely jarring. their voices are not even close to the same color or texture!

Some, however, are surprisingly close -- Audrey Hepburn vs. real singer Marni Nixon (she has finally started a career being her own voice! Yay!) in My Fair Lady.

But I'm about 95% sure that's Don Knotts's actual voice. I wonder where we could go to find out for sure...?

No, it was him. I got the DVD and he said they wanted him to do it.

That's an interesting condition. It actually sounds like it could be fun. I hope it is fun for you and not a hindrance.

It's entirely possible that I am missing the point of your message.

Don Knotts did the introduction on the DVD. He said he sang the song but it was Enhanced" by the sound engineers.
