Love This Thing:

I'm not a Don Knotts groupie by any means (when I read posts like 'these are my top 3 Don Knotts movies! I wonder what is wrong with these people. :D )

But to me, this is utterly charming in the same way Mary Poppins was. (Maybe it's because Knotts doesn't act all hysterical as he does in everything else.)

Anyhoo, there was a lot of crap back then that looks dated as hell now, but I think this totally holds up.

I can only imagine how terrible any remake would be.

What I really like: they don't even bother to explain -how- he 'transforms'. In the remake they'll probably come up with some elaborate 'kid-friendly' explanation involving 'magic spells' or an iPad app.

I always thought he changed because he made a wish on a fish. Kind of like Pinocchio wishing upon his wishing star.

I read that TPTB have been thinking of a remake for quite a while now. But when and where would the story be set? Would he still be a secret weapon, I wonder. Carrey seems to be the choice at the moment to play Limpet.

Have you seen The Ghost and Mr. Chicken? Knotts is still hysterical in it but it's actually a bit more appropriate in this film dealing with ghosts and haunted houses.

It's entirely possible that I am missing the point of your message.

This was one of my favorite films as a kid. I loved how it went from life-like filming to animation. It amazes me that people are watching it now. I need to get a copy of this!

I have always loved this movie since I was a kid. It was on tv a lot during the 60's and 70's. Sadly it is not shown anymore, in my area anyhow. Then today I visited a second hand store and lo and behold a DVD of "Das Limpet" was on the shelf. Needless to say I scooped it up and I'm watching it as I type this. I also bought "The Wizard of Oz" and "Mary Poppins" which was the first movie I ever saw in the theater. my wife just shook her head after I bought these films. Call me a nerd, weird, or a P&$#y for buying these kids flicks but I like what I like. I also own "The Godfather" box set, the complete "Soprano's" box set and the "Lethal Weapon" series. So I'm all P*##y whipped.

Mary Poppins and WoOz are both great movies. Not great kiddie movies. Great movies. It's a pity that anyone should feel defensive about that.

Congratulations on your excellent purchases.

Although buying a boxed set of Lethal Weapon is a little suspect. :D
