Stupid quick ending!

None of the characters are likeable in this movie. It started out interesting enough especially the main character living in the apartment bldg by himself.

Once the plot started unfolding, it became more preposterous. It did not make sense, why did they want to kill the wife? Were they in love? Sure did not seem like it.

By the end, I just was glad it was done and I love Hammer films. I will chalk it up as a bad year for the company.

4 out of a 10.

I thought it was a great movie...very different feel from most Hammer films. You're right in that the last 30 minutes or so the plot is easily revealed and it becomes a little disappointing. I think if it was remade and the plot changed a bit at the end it would be outstanding. Wow, I will say Lelia Goldoni was stunning in her prime.

I agree with the OP in one sense. The main character in this movie is really unlikable in a way that I don't think is intended. He's supposed to be a tough guy, but he's really just boorish and annoying. Very dated view of masculinity.

Spoilers. Don't read if you haven't seen the movie.

Chris Smith is an interesting character. He's apparently a middle-aged slacker who's been drifting around Europe getting laid and living by his wits. He even scams the clinic after his accident by hanging around pretending to have amnesia just to get free room and board and to flirt with his nurse. In spite of his character flaws, I still find him likable, but I'm not sure the nurse is making a smart move by sticking with him in a relationship. Robert Webber was very good in the role, and it seems as if he should have had a bigger career as a leading man. He was, however, very much a road company William Holden, which may have worked against him.

I would have liked Robert Webber to have had more leading roles even if they had been B-movies. I had the feeling all along that his character really did have amnesia.
