Ending

I know there's alot of comments on here implying that Charlotte is being taken to an asylum at the end, but I don't think there's specific dialogue saying exactly where she's going. She has that really nice moment where she leaves the music box in the house, but in context, she's not being restrained or in handcuffs, and no one is even with her in the house as she's getting herself ready to go. I just feel like if she was being arrested or sent to an asylum, it wouldn't be quite so gentle of a departure. Whenever I watch it, I always feel like she's being taken to the police station for questioning, but once everything comes out about Miriam and Drew, thing aren't going to end badly for Charlotte. Miriam and Drew were killers after all, and had a real ugly fate planned for Charlotte, talk about justifiable homicide. Does anyone recall any specific dialogue or lines that say exactly where they're taking Charlotte at the end?

They don't say where she's going, no. And if she hadn't attempted to drop that cement flower pot on George Kennedy's head a few days earlier, she might have gotten away with killing Miriam and Drew!

I read on one of the comments that someone on the DVD commentary said she was being taken to an asylum. So I think many of the commenters are saying it because of this. For me, I have no idea where the commenter got that conclusion from. The authorities always treated her like she was just cantankerous and odd, but not insane and truly dangerous. That is why they did not take action against her for trying to kill the George Kennedy character.
