Jack Lemmon hated this movie...

This is one of my favorite Jack Lemmon movies, and it pains me that Lemmon himself hated it. (I think it was his role, not necessarily the entire movie, that he hated.) Frankly, I don't see what there is to hate about it! This is just a sweet, innocuous comedy from the '60s. Okay, so it didn't have any big important message, but it wasn't offensive either. I wish Jack had liked it as much as I do.

That's somewhat disheartening. I really enjoyed it. A little long, but very funny.

The cast is so doggone likable it's a pleasure just watching them. All of the films directed by David Swift (POLLYANNA, THE PARENT TRAP) have this quality. I never liked knowing Lemmon didn't care for this movie. UNDER THE YUM YUM TREE I could understand, but not GOOD NEIGHBOR SAM.

Yes indeed!

My feelings exactly. Whenever I see UtYYT in the listings, I record it--because I love Jack Lemmon movies--and then half-heartedly watch it...not really enjoying it very much, but feeling kind of obligated once it's started. GNS, on the other hand, I watch with joy! 
