Hertz Rental Car commercial in the film

I always liked the running gag throughout the film about Jack Lemmon's ad agency repeatedly trying to film the famous "Let Hertz Put You In The Driver's Seat" TV commercial.

This famous commercial, in which a man, seemingly suspended in mid-air in a seated, arms-out driving position, was magically floated down into a driverless convertible running on the road was well-known in its time, and an early TV "special effects" triumph. At the time, there was a big public "how did they do that?" buzz about it.

It was one of the funniest parts in the movie.

Taken as a whole, this movie was kind of stupid, but individual parts of it were just genius, for one reason because Lemmon is just one of those people who seems to be intrinsically funny, and because of little bits of inspired craziness like the eternally ruined Hertz commercial. Romy Schneider was enchanting, that little kid who played the younger daughter was too (albeit in a different way), and those damn ducks were a scream.

I compulsively watch this every time it's on. I guess there's just no explaining why some movies grab you.
