Do you think that Goldfinger was extremely evil?

What do you think?

reply

Evil enough...? He was willing to sacrifice lives and the security and stability of whole nations just to enlarge his personal gold's value. That level of greed and selfishness is evil for sure. His childish temper when he is forced to stop cheating and lose at cards causes him to kill his "girlfriend". He murders for pleasure and profit. Yeah, I'd say he's evil.

"Extremely" sort of depends on your definition. That almost implies "irrationally" evil. Like, The Joker in most Batman incarnations is extremely evil because he doesn't even have logic to justify anything. He is cruel and twisted for its own sake, as an ethos. Goldfinger is motivated by greed, which is understandable insofar as you can see how he got there (while disapproving and condemning of every action he performs and result he achieves). He also doesn't go out of his way to be awful to people. He's an immature, bratty, selfish, greedy, narcissistic, obsessive, tyrannical monster, but not irrationally, if that makes sense. Extremely is in the eye of the beholder?

reply

Makes good sense. By the way who do you think was more evil? Goldfinger or Ivan Korshunov from Air Force One?

reply

I couldn't say; I haven't seen Air Force One...

reply

Yes extremely is in the eyes of the beholder. I would say that he was very evil but not extremely. I mean someone who is extremely evil isn't motivated by anything. Someone who is extremely evil will hurt others just for his own amusement. So I agree that he was very evil but not extremely. And as you said, he didn't go out of his way to hurt other people. So I would say that he was very evil but not extremely. The Joker was extremely evil because as you said, he was just hurting people for his own amusement. I mean in The Dark Knight he was going to push everyone into insanity for his own amusement.

reply

Yes. Sure, there are evil-er people out there, both film villains and real life monsters. In terms of sheer fucking awfulness, Goldfinger cant compare to the likes of Ramsey Bolton or the average dictator.

But Goldfinger had such style and panache, that he's a memorable and enjoyable screen villain anyway. And he had an outstanding theme song... "GoldFINGah!!"! You know you love it...

reply

Who do you think was the evilest Bond villain of them all?

I'm not 100% sure, but, in the running...

Elliot Carver was willing to perpetuate wars to keep print media alive.
Ernst Stavro Blofeld's sheer scope of villainy puts him in the running.
Rosa Klebb's is filled with utter sadism and a love of inflicting harm and pain.
Frank Sanchez exploits people, worships greed and gain, tortures, kills, and maims. (Dario, Sanchez's henchman, is pretty awful, too).

reply

Max Zorin, easily. He guns down hundreds of his own loyal workers while bursting out laughing.

In fact he’s so twisted that he even chuckles just before his own death as he plummets from the Golden Gate Bridge.

reply

I've watched the Moore films the least, so I don't always recall the details like that. Walken was pretty good in that role, too. It's too bad he was in a mediocre Bond flick with a very old-looking Moore.

reply

Yep, Walken makes the film, I’d even say he’s the best Bond villain ever. (It also has one of the best John Barry scores)

reply

He was going to cut a guy in half with a laser, starting with his balls. That's evil.
