A trailer for it can be seen on this second link.

It seems to draw inspiration from the movie version aswell as the original HG Wells novel, as we have an Old Cavor retelling his story round about the time of the official moon landing.

Interesting. Of course, from what I saw in the trailer, it looks like they also recreated the famous "rocket landing on the eye of the moon" scene from 1902's A TRIP TO THE MOON.

I will admit curiosity on this one.

Well,it COULD have been a good production!!!Just finished watching it.Well,Ray Harryhausen wont be losing any sleep, thats for sure. The budget must have been about a tenth of that spent on an episode of Doctor Who.No real sets as such, the sphere was about it,the rest was real houses and a tent!Perhaps the inside the Lunar caves, what little there was to see.The SFX were about the same as you could do on a PC at home. The script was so-so.The Selenites were poor and neither Mark Gatiss(who wrote it) as Cavor or Rory Kinnear as Bedford were anything like as good as the original actors. No female went to the moon, and they didnt even wear spacesuits-prob due to budgetary constraints-since the moon has a breathable atmosphere!!This First Men in the Moon was a real let-down.Given a decent budget and the SFX the BBC is now capable of,this could have been superb.I can watch the original movie again and again-but this?Never.

I sort of agree with you Gordy334. It was ok but lacked the charm and vision of the 1964 film. It was quite obviously done by the same people who made Dr Who and probably re-used some of their film sets. Also some of it looked quite fake and the acting was quite average. I suspect it had a very limited budget though so don't be too hard on what is basically a tv movie. Also in the book there are no spacesuits worn so you can blame Mr Wells and not the BBC for that one. I give it 6 out of 10.

I saw it when it first aired and have seen it a few times since, probably going against the majority opiniuon, and though I am a fan of the original movie, I loved the new BBC version and thought it was superior overall. Yes it's low budget as you'd expect anything on BBC4 to be, but it's still pretty impressive nevertheless, the script was excellent I thought, and I love the two lead performances, it's much more faithful to Wells's novel than the 60's film.

i listened to the 2017 radio adaptation of this, not from bbc this time but big finish productions, the british accent sounds really fake, i'm not of that language or accent but still picking up on it, usually you have to be a resident of the particular place they're faking to complain about it, but this is nothing compared to when the italian shows up, sounds like a complete cartoon, perhaps the actors are british but exaggerated because of radio, by the way, the guy humming sound like a bumblebee, the superiority in the personalities of almost every role makes it nearly unbearable to listen to and you long for "the twilight zone radio dramas", all their fancy talking and big words makes it unnecessary difficult for someone not speaking english, and i can't imagine the actual movie dragging on this long, speaking of the twilight zone, you get basically the same story in the twilight zone episode "will the real martian please stand up" running for about 20 minutes, (also part of it reminds of the movie "santa claus conquers the martians") the radio version is on a double set cd and runs for two hours, and it isn't until the start of the second cd they end up in the moon, i'm hardly giving anything away considering the title, but as it is remarkably you can sort of skip the first cd (half the running time) to get to the adventure. remember this entire comment has been about the radio version and not the movie which might be amazing, i haven't come across it, but i understand there is a double feature dvd release of this and "the time machine", a movie which seem much more accessible and i also was blown away by the radio version of that.

in wilderness you play my mind,
superior femininity got me spellbound,
you run my blood got me brainwashed,
though im better off keepin you down,
you turn me into a pup somehow,
as earth turn bright,
