Cherry Cottage was charming and beautiful!

One of the best parts of this film for me were the scenes at the beginning, at Cherry Cottage. The beautiful flowers and the charming little house half sunk in the ground next to canal were wonderful. And the shots of the English countryside were inspiring.

I am wondering where this sequence was filmed, and if there really was a "Cherry Cottage" that existed? Anyone care to comment?

All I know is that I just ordered the blu-ray of this film and the cottage is one of the parts I am dying to see on blu-ray!

I have just driven past it today. It is New Haw lock cottage in Surrey, England. It is still very pretty. It's just a few miles from Shepperton Studios where the film was made.

And situated just a couple of miles from Horsell Common, where H.G. Wells' Martians landed on Earth.

And only a few miles from Woking where a statue of a Martian tripod can be seen.
