Yelling "Geronimo" became popular after the 1962 movie came out.I disagreed and had to look this up. I found it became popular among paratroopers in the 1940s. It has been used as an exclamation much longer than that.
The film they saw was a Western featuring the Native American chief Geronimo. Its title is uncertain, but it was probably the 1939 film Geronimo with Andy Devine and Lone Ranger star Chief Thundercloud in the title role.
Ah. I had my Geronimo movies mixed up. I thought it originated with the Chuck Connors film.
Thanks for the info.
