The thing that bothered/didn't make sense to me about this film

I found it so weird that even though they all knew from the start that it was the engine that faltered that the focus of the investigation was on the character of the pilot and whether or not he had been drinking.

I just don't see how that was relevant at all since his drinking wouldn't have caused a mechanical failure. In any case it would have been irrelevant as it was a faulty engine that set the disaster in motion.

Anyone agree?

I think the issue is that only one engine blew out, and he should have been able to fly the plane with the other engine, but that wasn't explained very well in the film.
