One heck of a hard-hitting ending (SPOILERS)

Spoilers ahead

I just saw this movie for the first time today, and I loved it! Very nail-biting, but I have to say the part that stuck with me the most was the ending. Very tastefully done, with the shots of the people just living their lives with the countdown laid over it, and the flash... very well-done and very shocking.

The end, the "this could never happen..." disclaimer was great too. Very ironic.

I agree, I think the ending made up for the slowness of the rest of the movie. I didn't expect it to happen.

You thought this movie was slow? Seriously? Too much boring dialogue for you?

Indeed, just saw it myself. When the idea on hitting NY for compensation came for a moment I was sure they'll cop out and save it in last min. Obviously not... Infact, from start I was sure it's either going to be Armageddon or everyone (except the pilots) lives, then Moscow is hit, urgh... wth are they going to do now??

I'm old enough that I lived through that period, and saw the movie when it first came out. The very end, just after the countdown when the camera is doing fast still zooms on the people, still literally sends an actual shiver up my spine whenever I see it. It's the only movie that has ever done that.
