the maps were great

Those huge projections showing the Arctic, northern Canada and the States were a visual pleasure, including those triangular disks to indicate the aircraft and their direction in flight. I like the way Lumet zoomed in on them. It really created a great, prolonged silent tension. I think the maps are the one part where Lumet trumped Kubrick --but Stanley's cockpit design in Strangelove looked so authentic. In Failsafe, when the pilot opens his operational orders, you can see where the envelope was just stapled together. Anyone else for comparisons of the two movies?
