Repercussions When The Pilot Comes Home

Assuming the pilot that drops the bomb on Moscow makes it back home to America, will he be facing any repercussions? I know he was just following orders, but I can't imagine he would be very popular! Perhaps he will be promoted and receive a medal, or on the other hand, find himself cleaning toilets in the officer's latrine.
Realistically how do you think it would go down?

reply

But we KNOW the crew of that plane did not make it back to the USA, the pilot said they got a lethal dose of radiation from Russian defensive nukes and the plane's crew decided to blow themselves up with their bomb.

reply

The crew elected to have the bombs explode at an altitude that destroyed themselves as well. As one of them says, there's nothing to go back to at home, anyway.

reply

He couldn't be punished for following his orders and training.

If his identity became public knowledge, he might be in danger, and he would probably be placed in the equivalent of a witness protection program.

Of course, there could be political ramifications from NYC and Moscow getting nuked, so who knows what effects that would have.
