I love The Evil of Frankenstein. It was GREAT! I especially love the kinda cheesy Burgomaster and how he keeps saying people have to be "panooshed." Also, doesn't someone say in a very theatrical voice, "Who could have done this eeeevillll thinggg???" WONDERFUL movie! Great movies but I agreed with you that The Horror of Frankenstein was not up to snuff. Victor just seemed like a big dork. Usually I have some kind of empathy with Victor, or SOMETHING, but I just wanted to slap him silly.

Nothing - I did absolutely nothing, and it was all I dreamed it could be.

I NEED HELP! This is for a contest that I'm trying to win and I don't have the time or money to rent all of these! Please help me! E-mail answers to [email protected] or just post the answers. THANK YOU!

"The Evil of Frankenstein" has General Tarkin, I mean Peter Cushing flirting on the edge of sanity as the famous doctor. After he and his ward rescue the monster from the glacier and bring it back to consciousness, what do they drink to celebrate?

I'm a big Hammer fan but the Frankenstein films just don't do it for me--except for Evil of Frankenstein and Frankenstein must be Destroyed. I think Evil of Frankenstein is the best of the Frankenstein films and one of Hammer's all time best. It's not Terrence Fisher but it's still got better matte paintings, better cinematography, and Peter Cushing was fantastic! It's also got great dialogue, "Foul desecrator of graves!" I wish Universal would hurry up and release a DVD. The VHS version simply won't do. Frankenstein must be Destroyed comes in second and I enjoyed it quite a lot for its lurid cinematography. It's not a fast paced film but I enjoyed the atmosphere and of course, Peter Cushing.

i like the hammer ones the best cause they concentrate on the dr. frankenstein more then the monster or in the series case, monsters. and while i'll except other peoples opinions that the hammer ones aren't the best frankenstein movies, i do believe peter cushing is the best dr. frankenstein EVER. case closed.

I've seen "Curse of...", "Revenge of...", "Horror of..." and now this one. What was great about this one is the presence of an antagonist, in the form of the greedy hypnotist, with whom Frankenstein has to contend. Dr. F doesn't seem quite so bad compared to that s.o.b.

I think Hammer's Frankenstein series is better on the whole than their Dracula series. Production values seem higher, Cushing's Doctor/Baron is more interesting than Lee's Count Dracula, and I think the scripts are better (they treat Frankenstein better than the Dracula scripts do for the Count).

Does anyone know which series made the most money for Hammer?

"Remember, you have to make it home to get paid" (The Dogs of War)

reply

Absolutely! They're a lot of fun and Peter Cushing makes a wonderful Dr. Frankenstein. I've just started revisiting the entire series of Hammer Frankenstein films this week.

So far I've seen 4 out of 7 (I plan to see the rest soon) and I have enjoyed each of them. Hammer Films are wonderful and have a great way of storytelling that few other movie studios can duplicate.
