People are lamenting it not being on DVD. It IS. I just saw it on Amazon. I love this old romp. While it's nowhere near the seriousness of Mister Roberts, it is an idealistic look back at a time that was far from funny. It took a serious time (WW2) and showed things on the "back end" of the war. It is akin to "Operation Petticoat," "Father Goose" and "McHale's Navy." If you want serious, watch "Saving Private Ryan" or "Pearl Harbor."

Thank you, God Bless!

Agreed. There are others more serious and others more fun, but this one is a classic in my opinion simply because it's the right mix of the two. It's an opera in a way. Great acting, realistic characters, ups and downs, the perfect mix of drama and comedy. All in all, it's one of my fav movies. It never seems to get old and it can still pass a slow night on a lesser known movie channel.
