I always thought Max Steiner's main title march, repeated throughout the film, was great.

I read somewhere that Walsh had personally begged Steiner to write an exceptional score for his last film... the result is a masterpiece! The best thing of the movie, perhaps along with the great battle scene.

The score from "A Distant Trumpet is available on CD in "The Wild West: The Essential Western Film Music Collection." I ordered the CD from Amazon just because that score is one of the 38 themes on it. All the themes were done by The City of Praugue Philharmonic and "A Distant trumpet sounds great.
