Dissenting voices - deal with it

I'm really struck by quite how vitriolic the response is on this board, to anyone who comes in and says they don't like the film for whatever reason. It's a problem on IMDb (and the internet!) generally, but there seems to be a particularly harsh Zero-Tolerance policy in place here.

I'd just like to say, that for those of you who love this film, the message board relating to it is not just a fan site, it is for all comers to express their opinion, whether it is in agreement with you, or critical of something you hold dear. People have different tastes, people like different things, and having taken time to watch the film, they have a perfect right to come here and say what they are feeling. Slagging them off for having done so, dismissing them as having inferior views or tastes to your own, might make you feel better, but it also makes you look an arse.

Preferences in film are a subjective thing, and to say that anyone else's preferences are somehow inherently inferior to your own indicates that your own mind is as closed as you accuse them of being.

If you feel the need to respond, rather than just accept that they differ from you, much better to point out the meritious features of the film. But probably, best to just let it lie. The hate here does no one any good. If they dissent from your view, deal with it - it's fine, it won't hurt you

I don't think most of the posters who have taken issue with the dissenting voices have done so because the posters hold negative opinions of the movie; I think they've done so because those opinions tend to be expressed in the form of statements like "This movie was boring and overrated and even smoking a joint while watching it didn't help," "This sucks!" etc. It's very difficult to have a productive back and forth about the film if those rating it negatively offer no criticisms of substance.

Actually, the real problem is that the only criticism too many of these "dissenting voices" have to offer, is some laconic non-argument ("it's boring", "it's stupid" etc), that they engage in irrelevant speculation ("most posters/critics are too afraid to admit it sucks") or dish out other thinly - or not so thinly - veiled insults ("how much Adderall do you take daily?" as one smartass OP asks). It is difficult to respect posters who obviously have no interest in an actual discussion and "pointing out the meritious features of the film" to such element would be a waste of time.
