SPOILERS **** every few minutes, another fun character actor comes along... R. Deacon (Mel, Dick v Dyke show), Mary Wickes and her gang of cronies, Doris Roberts, Ralph Manza.... and it took so long for Angela Lansbury to show up, i was wondering if we would ever actually see her... or if Harry was just making her up. And Michael Anderson (Patrick) will play the "Doctor" in Logan's Run.

Evie would have been the PERFECT role for Judy Holliday... a quieter, more pleasant version of Gladys Glover, for those who have seen It Should Happen to You from 10 yrs prior.

PS.. Jeanne Arnold (plays Rita, the waitress) was ALSO in Bewitched.

Michael Anderson Jr. may have gotten the part because he was a good actor and perhaps because his Dad Michael Anderson Sr. directed Logan's Run and quite a few other films (btw both son and father are still living)
Did anyone notice the bellboy/pagers calling out the name "Roy Fitzgerald"in the lobby? Roy Fitzgerald is the real name of late actor Rock Hudson, so I wonder if the other names called were also inside jokes.
P.S. Otis the town drunk of Mayberry was in this movie too as a convention goer.

Thanks for mentioning Doris Roberts! I've watched Dear Heart several times now and somehow missed her.....she played the clerk at the train station...

I agree with you that Judy Holliday would have been a great Evie! Though I loved Geraldine Page in the role.

I have to point out that Michael Anderson was in Logan's Run to my husband. I didn't realize that.

I think Judy Holliday was great but I don't think she'd have been as good an Evie as Geraldine Paige. Ms. Paige was really able to put the quirky twist on Evie's role of a spinster almost on the edge of giving up on ever finding love. It would have been much harder to see Holliday in that mode in life.

I love Geraldine in this role. I love Geraldine period. And I doubt that Judy Holliday would've been better.

But I kinda agree that Judy Holliday would've been a great substitute for her in this role. It's such a "Judy Holliday role". Reminded me of some of her 50s movies. If it had been made with Judy instead, I'm pretty sure I still would love "Dear Heart."

YES!! Noticed it immediately! Darn, you beat me to the punch. I just now saw this on TCM for the first time. Talk about six degrees of Gladys Kravitz! LOL. Great Movie!

Doris Roberts is not in any credits here or onscreen and Dear Heart is not on her IMDb page. Was she the station attendant at the end of the movie? Because Parker McCormick is credited with that role.
