You have to watch me on that!

My sisters and I love this film and will watch every chance we get, our favorite catch phrase is Evie's "You have to watch me on that"! So sometimes as a joke we will say that to each other when appropriate, ie; knocking over a water glass, "you have to watch me on that"! LOLOL. Someone mentioned Judy Holiday would have played Evie's part well, but I disagree I think Geraldine Page was PERFECT for the part and added so much to the character.

I agree with you : Geraldine Page was great at portraying a woman who was attractive to the men at the convention, while also being quite aggravating to women in general — the ladies at the convention, the young girl who got off the train next to her — as well as the staff at the hotel, who saw her over-riding need for attention quite clearly. Daphne Mitchell couldn't be bothered with her at Penn Station nor was June Loveland impressed with her friendliness either.

"You have to watch me on that" is the perfect line for this character. As performed, it seems funny on the surface, but through repetition it reveals itself as a hidden plea: "Watch me ? somebody look at me ? notice me ?" A rich concentration of the movie's blend of dotty humor and pathos.
