Henry the Butler and Edie

he semed to take to her right away.
did he feel sorry for her? or just like her because she REALLY loved Frank and he liked Mr Delorca and disliked Maggie for being such a bitch and knowing Maggie killed him.
either way he semed to be her 'friend'
I liked Henry, he was willing to lie for Edie as Maggie.

I like him a lot, too, for all the reasons you state, which I believe are all true and contributing factors to why he took to her right away.

The brief exchange between Edith and Henry near the film's end, when she realizes that he has known all along about her deception, is one of Davis's finest "less is more" moments - "And I thought I was all alone" - she smiles tightly and shakes her head a bit, and says with a catch in her voice "Thank you, Henry." Really and truly one of my favorite "Davis Moments."

Of course, there's also the look he gives her much earlier, when she asks for her a cocktail and he says "The usual?" and she replies after an uncertain pause, "The usual"!

I've just watched this film again and had bona-fide tears pricking at my eyes during the above exchange.

I agree, one of the best moments of the movie.
