I wonder if there will be any new extras, or if this will be a repressing of the original Columbia/TriStar release (aside from the new digital transfer the link boasts).

DVD was released yesterday. The retrospective featurette is from the 2001 release. But this is NOT a re-pressing. Picture and sound quality are noticeably improved, About as much as can be done with videotape from 50 years ago. For those serious fans who own the previous DVD, this is definitely worth the upgrade.

Just bought it, of course I absolutely loved it...but somehow I feel a better transfer than this one must exist somewhere which would warrant a BLU-RAY release!

PLEASEEEEEEEEEEE

The transfer is from the original elements. It's been ''improved'' as much as possible. This is most likely as good as it will ever get. All Blu-Ray would do is accentuate the flaws in the picture. Remastering videotape is not the same as restoring a film. That's why ''SHOUT!Factory'' (the distributor) has stated they have no plans for a Blu-Ray release.

Wow...what a let down...but just the same, Thanks for that kind and informative reply!

You're welcome. and, anyway, it looks like HI-DEF compared to the previous ''Columbia/Tristar DVD. I bought that one the day it was released (2001) and found the picture quality only a small improvement over VHS. Nevertheless, I was pleased with it, until this one came along-and blew it out of the water. In my opinion, it's fantastic!.

Well, if it's the best we can get, then we won't fret. :) Thanks, Phill!

You're welcome again. I also have the cast album from 1965 (on vinyl) as well as the CD, which was released back in 1993. The vinyl actually sounds MUCH better. Proof, once again, that a new format doesn't always guarantee improvement. Maybe that sounds 'Impossible'', but, nevertheless, it's true.

I have to go looking for this version... I rented the earlier DVD but sounds like I want to own this one...

And you made me smile when you said "Impossible".

Thank God that the world is full of zanies and fools!
