Stuart Damon

I remember watching this as a little girl, and just rented it from Netflix and watched for the first time as an adult.

I now know where my idea of what is "handsome" was born. Stuart Damon as the Prince embodies all of the looks, mannerisms and attitudes that I find attractive.

reply

Ohhho yes... lol...

I'm not psycho, just a little loopy...

Same here. I recall thinking the same thing while watching it as a little girl!

I must have watched that version way back before I can remember because Stuart Damon has always fascinated me, and I have always felt attracted to him, but an archaic sense of the word. I felt as though I had seen him in something before GH, but I couldn't put my finger on it. When I saw the clips on YOU TUBE, I have this weird sense of deja vu, and since my mother is a HUGE Rogers&Hammerstein fan, I've probably seen everything they have ever written music for.

And Stuart is STILL handsome with a certain boyish charm about him.

reply

I agree with the other posters- He was quite handsome and definitely was an excellent choice to play the Prince!

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Damon several years ago at Super Soap Weekend
at Disney MGM Studios in Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. He was there
because of his role as Alan Quartermaine on "General Hospital" of course, but
at least two of us in line wanted to talk about his most remembered role, the
prince in "Cinderella." He was most gracious and took time to talk to all of us
and signed the cover of my laserdisc copy of "Cinderella." Upon seeing me come
up to him at his autograph signing table, he exclaimed "Oh, look at this guy
with his Cinderella stuff--and the prince, wasn't he a handsome fellow? We all
smiled. What a nice man and a great sense of humor. I asked if he sang any more
and he said that he did not. I then discussed with him some of his other (in
my opinion) more memorable roles: "The Champions" television series; The
episode of "The Saint" entitled "The Ex King of Diamonds;" The "Thriller"
episode entitled "Nightmare for a Nightingale" with actress Susan Flannery (now
on "The Bold and the Beautiful"); the episode of the television series "UFO"
with actor Ed Bishop; and an episode of the television series "Space 1999."
He then said, "Well, you've almost reviewed my entire career!" Finally, how
nice to hear that after the great cries of anguish about his firing from
"General Hospital" after 30 years (30 years!) he will stay on a "ghost" of his
former role, Alan Quartermaine. It will be interesting to see how this new
role plays out.

That's a wonderful story, leetallahassee - thanks for sharing it! I'm glad to hear that Mr. Damon took the time to chat with his fans about his role in Cinderella, and that he was nice, etc.

BTW, I learned something new from your post because I did not know that he starred in "Space 1999."

reply

Great post leetallahassee. What fun that must have been to meet him. It would have been interesting to be inside his head when you recapped his career. He had to have either been thinking "This is my new favorite fan!", or "Stalker!" Probably the first one since there was no mention of him calling for security. LOL.

I didn't know that they had killed him off on GH, (which I haven't watched since I went back to work full-time, although it was a guilty pleasure when I was a stay-at-home mom.) At least they're letting him be a ghost, and not throwing our a bizarre twist like "The mother ship came for him"!

reply

That was a great post, leetallahassee. It's always nice when you meet a celebrity and they reat you well and appreciate you.

BTW, I agree with all of the other posts, I remember seeing his is a child and, later, watching "GH" with my grandmother and thinking that I "knew" him from somewhere too!

I, too, watched this as a young girl and definitely defined what a handsome man is by Mr. Damon. I have never, ever been able to take a blonde man seriously. That may seem silly, but ooooohh, a handsome prince must have dark hair.

:)

reply

Dark hair, athletic build, can sing, has a sense of humor, is romantic, respectful of his parents and even people of a lower class than himself, uses horses for transportation...is it too much to ask???

reply

On the DVD extras Stuart Damon mentions that the original choice for the prince was Jack Jones and Stuart became the last-minute replacement. Always wondered why Jack didn't end up doing the part.

reply

I will have to rent this to get the extras, Dannybob! Jack Jones would have been very good also, he had the looks and the voice. I seem to remember reading he was in the Air Force early in his life....perhaps it was during this time period and conflicted?? Any Jack Jones stalkers out there?? :-D

Stuart as the Prince defined my masculine ideal back before I knew what a masculine ideal was or that the males species didn't have cooties.

I agree with fiveoaks. He was the handsome prince from that day forward. He was perfect for that part and this movie set the stage for first sight fairytale kind of love for me. . I hadn't seen it since they stopped showing it on tv and I thought that movie was long gone forever and thought it was a lost movie or something. Then I found it on netflix and rented it. Still love it.

I was a little girl, too, when I first saw this movie on television... 9 or 10 years old... I was so enchanted by it that I begged off my planned Christmas caroling that evening so I could finish watching it... and The Prince, Stuart Damon? I thought I'd never seen a man more beautiful in my life, and I probably hadn't... haven't seen too many since, either (although Adrian Paul is a definite looker, in my book)... so I guess my attraction to dark-eyed, dark-haired men goes further back than I realized... all the way back to when I was a child!

... the hardest thing in this world is to live in it...

i was a huge fan of general hospital for several years in the 1980's. stewart was handsome in the 1960's and 1980's. i'm sure he's just as handsome today.

reply

I've always been attracted to guys with dark hair and dark eyes and never even thought about the fact that it could be related to my love of this film as a small child. It makes sense tho. All little girls dream of finding their "Prince Charming." I've only found frogs, but havent' given up hope! LOL

reply

Plus he is nicely packaged in those tights.

reply

I loved him. But I prefer Paolo Montalban. He looked more like a teenager. Stuart looked in his 30s.

I love you, Kristen Stewart. :) You are so beautiful and talented. I would love to perform with you.

I was a youngster myself, and found that I was captivated more by the price than anything else also.

Stuart Damon is truly dazzling. I love the little jokes he makes.
