> In 1986, whilst on a visit to Warners to release the sountrack from this film, I found to my dismay that not only had the multi-track music stems been "wiped" ("erased'), with only a poor monaural mix-down available, much of the film's other elements appeared to have been scattered to the four winds.
Recently, the soundtrack album was added to the i-Tunes music store. Since it's copyrighted 1987, I assume it's the one you worked on.
So is this CD compiled out of the monaural mix-down, since as you say the multi-track music stems had been "erased," or maybe simply decomposed because of the fragility of the magnetic recordings?
North is one of my favorites composer in film history, and Cheyenne Autumn is among his most impressive work. I'd love to get this but I am wondering if it's the best version available. Would appreciate your advice. Thanks.
Though the DVD looks quite good, I would appreciate if the Warners would do a full restoration of this as it has been done for some 70 mm epics like Spartacus. I have a vague memory of seeing a 70 mm archive print when I was a kid and that was impressive.
