Laurel's beach monologue

Wasn't she outstouding in this piece with miss madrigal on the beach - she performs it so completely brilliantly, i cant imagine it being done any other way. what do you think?

Ditto, I love Hayley, and until I saw this performance, I always thought she was great in the Disney films and 'Whistle Down'.....but this movie blew me away....Her BEST performance!

I have loved this movie and its players since I was a child. I agree with your opinion, yardleys40, but I'm not sure which scene you're referencing. Do you mean the scene in the morning or the later scene at night? Both of those scenes were very memorable to me.

Another powerful scene was in Laurel's bedroom- when she's talking to the doll- I'll never forget the expression of horror on Hayley's face when she realises she's being watched - very chilling! The whole scene is a terrific testament to her acting ability.

I saw a similar masterful performance in "Twisted Nerve" - In the final stages Hayley's character tracks down the Mother of Hywell Bennett's character -who denies there is any connection- as she leaves Hayley spots a family photo on the mantelpiece- the shock of recognition on her face transfixes the other woman & shifts in one frame into abject pity. That's real acting!
