It Carried On!

I have just watched my first two "Carry On" films: this one and Carry on Cleo. I am a big fan of Round the Horne, so I was overjoyed to find out that Kenneth Williams (whom I have never seen in real life- on film or TV, etc.) would be the star. However, I was disapponted with Carry on Jack; either it is because Williams doesn't have a very big part as he did in C.O. Cleo, or there was two much action and a very unfunny side plot (the first-mates or whoever plotting against the captain). As well, Albert Poopdecker wasn't as funny as I had hoped, as he was pretty much the main character. It was "Yeah, I see the humour." but wasn't laugh-out-loud stuck-with-you humour.

Overall, Carry On Cleo was by far the funniest so far; Carry On Jack can just, well, carry on and keep going!

YES I AM INSANE

I disagree.
The humour in 'Carry On Jack' is witty and comes on thick. This is one of my fave carry-on films. Maybe it's just misunderstood or brushed aside because it doesn't have many of the regulars in it. I don't think it gets the recognition it deserves. I also think the acting is superb!!!

I saw this for the first time today and I thought it was funny. The funniest one for me is Carry On Up The Khyber.

"I have met some dumb blondes in my time. But you take the taco, pal"

Yes it is a very fine film and looks lavish with a fine supporting cast, but its just not a great "Carry on" film. It's just not very funny and doesn't really feel like a Carry On.

I found this the most disappointing film of the entire series. It just was dull and none of the regular witty lines at all that we have become used to. Cast was very ordinary in this. Script poor and unfunny.

I agree for the most part, but Kenneth Williams's leg-amputation scene is priceless.

But you ARE Blanche ... and I AM.

I've never found Cribbins amusing and find him particularly out-of-place in a Carry On film.

reply

Yea Cribbins looked out of place here. Overall it suffers from too few regulars and hence that Carry on feel. Not a bad film though.

Suppose Cribbins replaced Connor. I sympathised with the mutineers-they were fighting for their country and had a captain who wouldn't.
