Great actors at their worst,1920s with 1960s hair and clothes.....and beyond stupid dialog ...Poor Alan Ladd ..May he Rest In Peace....

I thought it was a great film. I enjoyed every performance of all of the players. Different strokes for different folks.

Same here. Even when I first saw it on TV in the 60's as a prepubescent kid. Sure was a lot of fun.

Oh wow I loved it-had never heard of it before (actually thought it was a western when I first saw title) last night.

As a renaissance chick, I paint, write, and sing loudly off-key.

It actually is a western. Set in Nevada and California in the 1920's and 30's!

High gloss trash. Loved it โ€“ and hated it. Not many likeable characters. Of the principals I thought Robert Cummings as the oily agent was the best. Along with the hair styles, I found Elmer Bernsteinโ€™s jazzy, 1950s style score more than a little out of place as to era. All this being said it sure looks beautiful: reminiscent of the polished soapers Douglas Sirk did so well in the 1950s. Was the character Carroll Baker played based on Jean Harlow?

You and I think alike, bcstoneb444. This just aired on TCM and I finally got to see it again. I will have to disagree to the best performance because I think Baker gave the best performance with Balsm coming in a close second. Peppard's overly cute delivery and Ashbury's flippant mouth dropping grated on me though. Both over acted, especially together. For years I thought that was Orson Welles narrating. Live and learn.
