I'm actually watching this movie now on TCM and for the very first time ever . I know this is a really late showing of it but so far it's totally worth it . I was so glad to see that it was Rod Serling who also wrote this ( it does seem very TZ-like too ) . Thanks to both bcamphome for the heads up on this recent TCM showing and to jcrt for your subject post . ( PS - A very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you as well ! )

I missed the opening credits, but as I was listening to Sterling Hayden and Ben Gazzara, I thought, "This sounds an awful lot like Rod Serling." There's just something about the structure and cadences in the language. So I came here and "Hah!"

What an individual and recognizable writing style Serling had.

Most definitely agree douglashicton . Rod Serling's work was quite ahead of it's time . He certainly knew how to get the message of his storylines across to his viewers that would also leave a lasting impression with us always . I really like the Wikipedia Profile Page for this show especially the ad poster for it too - quite TZ-ish ---- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Carol_for_Another_Christmas ---- .

It's a shame he died when he was a good four years younger than I am now. What other things might he have accomplished!

reply

I so agree douglashicton RS would have had some more great stories especially in the 1980's . It's so sad he was taken from us too soon .

reply

The biographies on Serling I've read indicate that he always believed he would die relatively young. Unfortunately, he made that happen by being seriously addicted to cigarettes - it destroyed his circulatory system. (Even if that hadn't happened, he might have developed melanoma, as he was also addicted to tanning.) I'm a fan of his work, but facts are facts - he inadvertently caused his own death.

I totally agree with you here TopFlight and have also read about it . I have seen an interview with Anne Francis ( when she was still with us - it was on the TZ DEFINITIVE COLLECTION on DVD ) she mentions about how his long term smoking also weakened his heart . Sadly it was a very upsetting circumstance especially next to " RS doing ads for cigarettes " too . A few of the " TZ Trailer Bumpers " contain a few cigarette endorsements by RS also . Unfortunately that was an age when smoking was totally the norm ( unlike today thankfully ) . It was quite tragic indeed a lot of well known celebs lost their lives too early due to cigarette smoking .
